Ready to spice up your career perspectives in Maastricht? In collaboration with Maastricht University, Gemeente Maastricht and Provincie Limburg, we are organizing a 1-day hackathon. The goal is to bring students, young professionals and entrepreneurs together to solve 3 different challenges related to employability in the region of Maastricht. The focus of the Mediaan challenge involves matching resources with planning. This starts with finding the right people to hire or the right job to apply to and extends to distributing work within a project. The best part? You can make a real contribution as the winning solutions will be further developed!

To prepare yourself for the hackathon, we have prepared an inspiring workshop during the weekend of the 5th-6th of May as a part of Maastricht Entrepreneurship Week. Each day covers a number of workshops that are focused specifically on the skills that are useful for your successful participation in the hackathon.
Our challenge for the hackathon
Finding the perfect job for your skills, interests and ambitions can sometimes look almost impossible, especially for a student or young professional. At the same time, companies want to hire the perfect fit for their upcoming projects or existing clients. Instead of looking at a situation from opposing sides, we can identify one common problem and stimulate not only employment but more importantly successful matchings between
This problem resonates with us as an IT company: in a field that evolves particularly fast, having the best in house-knowledge and expertise is essential for us. Furthermore, as a small enterprise that began in Limburg 50 years ago, we know from experience that investing in our local students is linked to the success of the business ecosystem of the region.
How do we make sure the right people get the right opportunities in order to maximize productivity? Does it start with changing the recruitment process? Or within project management can we give the right people the perfect tasks and opportunities?
The focus of our challenge is matching resources with planning. This starts with finding the right people to hire or the right job to apply to and extends to distributing work within a project.
Possible areas to focus on / questions
- Should we redesign the interviewing and recruitment process? In what way? A platform? A policy? A procedure?
- Can we rethink how we create a team and assign roles & tasks?
- What criteria would you use? What is the impact or change you are aiming for?
- Can we better match people with opportunities?
- Can the same framework be used for different processes? (see hiring, project management)
- Are these issues completely different?
