Time to party

Time to party! We are very proud of our three interns who have successfully graduated. Marc Pont and David Roschewitz both received their diploma for the Bachelor Knowledge Engineering and Data Science at Maastricht University. Jonas Stams graduated his Professional Bachelor of Computer Science at the PXL in Hasselt. Congrats boys!

David Roschewitz, Switzerland

David Roschewitz has graduated his Bachelor Knowledge Engineering and Data Science at Maastricht University. For his bachelor thesis, he investigated on a useful tool to get the most out of machine learning procedures.

David Roschewitz

Upon graduating High School, studying abroad was my main objective. With much deliberation, my passion for computer hardware overruled my interest in law and economics, and led me to commence my studies at Maastricht University. In addition to the focus on projects and teaching-in-practice, a program enables students to participate in an traineeship for two years. Wanting to explore other areas of computer science and gaining working experience made Mediaan a natural choice.

Throughout my time here I have not only worked on a variety of assignments, but made new friends along the way. My work on predictive models sparked my interest in self-tuning and optimizing algorithms, a useful tool to get the most out of machine learning procedures. Due to the flexibility offered by Mediaan, I investigated this topic independently for half a year, culminating in my Bachelor thesis.  I hope to put this and the other skills I have acquired to good use. First, I am looking forward to continue my work at Mediaan and then travel the world before starting my Masters degree in 2018.

Jonas Stams, Belgium

Jonas has graduated his Professional Bachelor of Computer Science at the PXL in Hasselt. During his thesis, he has created a tool that made it possible for non-technical persons to create Automated UI Tests. In September, Jonas will start working at Mediaan as a Software Engineer.

Jonas Stams

After my 15 weeks of internship at Mediaan, I finished my study and received my Professional Bachelor of Computer Science at the PXL in Hasselt. During  my study, I chose the track Application Development, where I learned a lot about programming. Programming has always been my passion even before entering high school. Even now that I have finished my study, I’m still excited about learning new things  in this field. The upcoming months will become my ‘energy boosting’ weeks. I’m going to visit my cousin in Thailand and meet some friends in Shanghai. In September, I’ll start working at Mediaan as a Software Engineer.

My thesis focusses on ‘Quality Assurance’ and ‘Automated Testing’. I have created a tool that made it possible for non-technical persons to create Automated UI Tests. Before this tool, these tests could only be done by a Software Engineer since these tests are made by programming. My tool made it possible for a non-technical person to record the steps he makes and convert them to code. For example, you’re using the recorder and login to a website. After you stop recording, the code will be generated and the test will be accessible in the tool. You can run the test and when it’s finished, the tool creates a nice report about the test. The report includes which steps are passing and failing, the duration of the step, a screenshot of the step and the generated code for this step.

Marc Pont, South Africa

Marc Pont has graduatesd his Bachelor Knowledge Engineering and Data Science at Maastricht University. His thesis has resulted in a model that can eventually help developers recognize vulnerable code using an interface similar to existing debuggers.

Marc Pont

Three years ago I finally accepted my inner geek, fueled by a passion for mathematics and intelligent systems. So I took a risk and enrolled into the data science bachelors at Maastricht University. My greatest question: Is this the right decision? One year later I was provided the opportunity to start an internship at Mediaan, while still asking myself the same question. Luckily Mediaan has a very welcoming team. They provided me the opportunity to get hands-on experience with machine learning and logical inference systems. Take another year and I am given a chance to choose my thesis topic and freely work on it for half a year.

In these few years I have worked on projects related to finance, insurance, security, infrastructure and transportation. My thesis has resulted in a model that can eventually help developers recognize vulnerable code using an interface similar to existing debuggers. My work on a logical inference system continues and more data scientific prospects lie on the horizon. Mediaan has also provided the opportunity to continue my work while I step up my data science game by enrolling into a masters education. All in all, my time at Maastricht University and the internship at Mediaan have answered my original question, clearly this was the right decision to make.
